With their hilarious online banter about the everyday realities of coupledom, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen make a case that marriage is still fun after six years. The Grammy award-winning artist and model-author seem to share the kind of relationship that’s enviable for much more than the sum of its red carpets.
The couple first met on the set of Legend’s 2007 music video “Stereo” with Teigen starring as his love interest. It didn’t take long for life to imitate art and within months they were an item. Legend proposed in 2011, while on vacation in the Maldives — though the surprise was nearly blown by TSA: “[The ring] was in my carry on and security wanted to look in that particular box,” Legend told Oprah. “Chrissy was standing right next to me and I was like… ‘She’s going to find out I have a ring and I’ll have to get on my knees in the airport.’”
Luckily, Legend made it through and proposed as planned (in the Maldives during Christmas). The ring he eventually revealed was a minimal design showcasing a cushion-cut solitaire (estimated at 5 to 6 carats) set on a delicate diamond pavé band. Sleek and understated, it’s a style that celebrates the simple things.
