My fiancée and I have been planning the wedding party for some time now. She pretty much has asked all of her bridemaids-to-be and gotten approval on all of them. But, I haven't asked my groomsmen-to-be and best man yet. Little background info: our wedding isn't planned until 2012 we have 5 each in the parties, I'm the last in the family to get married, the only son in the family, and my fiancée is the first in her family to get married.
However, when talking to my mom over the weekend, she asked who my Best Man was and I told her my mentor/friend from college (who I'm closer to than any of my other friends, even fraternity brothers). She was shocked and told me that my Dad should be my best man. I've heard situations like this, but the traditional thing is to have your best friend be your Best Man.
My situation is this: Do I go the traditional route and pick my mentor/friend from college to be my Best Man, or ask my Dad and bump my mentor/friend down a spot? I'd hate to ask my mentor/friend to be it and have my Dad crushed by the news if he was expecting to be my Best Man.
I've seen a few responses on the forum about having two best men. If anybody has had experience with that, how'd it turn out? That would be an ultimate solution to this problem, but I'd like some feedback first before I actually ask anybody and get it down in stone...if you know what I mean. |
