Long story - here are the high points: I have an old friend, let's call him George, that I don't see anymore. We were college roommates and best friends for years, but now we haven't spoken in a long time and I don't really consider him a great friend anymore. Trick is, he still thinks we are great pals and tries to get in touch with me all the time because we never had a big fight where I told him that we aren't friends anymore. Him and my fiancée hate each other so she will not have any part of him being invited, but I feel like I should invite him because of our history. He is still a part of my same circle of friends and everyone else from the circle are my groomsmen. Fantasy Football is going to be really awkward next year.

So what do you think? Invite him? Call him to let him know he isn't invited? Or just don't say anything and have him realize on the wedding day that he never got an invitiation - because he will hear about it from our other friends?

If the reason is you aren't inviting George because of your fiancé, you have to ask her straight up.

I have a similar situation with two friends.  One - my friend and fiancé made peace after the engagement.  The other, I explained to my fiancé the my friend would be very hurt if all of our circle of friends went and there was an obvious exclusion.  Neither of these people ever did anything "offensive to the bride"

"I just don't like him/her" isn't reason enough to veto.

"He called me a slut in front of a crowd of people" is, and you should back her up with that.

If you're going to dis your friend, make her give you ammunition to defend yourself with.
